Preventing Alcohol Abuse

It is more likely for most of the people particularly the smart ones to stay away from giving attention to their alcohol abuse or use and that can be an effective idea, at least for now. Sadly, this is the wrong approach and if people were better educated against the real issue of alcohol and not the imaginary problems they would be much better off.

Most of us have been made to understand and that too wrongly that any over consumption or misuse of alcohol is a self-destructing exercise, a slow and silent killer, from where there is hardly any chance of survival and many people, quite understandably think that such a condition is worse than being totally sloshed. The inclusion of either moderation or real recovery in the “assessments” used is not something that they considering making this situation a more confusing scheme since it only present a treatment that is limited to the one-size-fits-all strategy. Regardless of the studies, we all know that it is still based on experiences of the way people deal with their alcohol use which is also similar to the way they give attention to smoking, weight loss, and their many other irritating dilemmas.

Approximately, two drinks of distilled spirits, two bottles of beer, or one half bottle of wine per day was found to be a substantial allocation of alcohol for an adult man and half of that portion for adult women that can be considered as healthy alcohol consumption. Apparently these limits allow the beneficial and cut out the damaging effects of alcohol. For instance, it is possible that one may land up drinking a bit too much during any special social function but on an average one should restrict his consumption within the set guidelines.

Generally these two symptoms will occur in unison but either is sufficient to cause concern. What can contribute to this situation are the frequent occurrence of being left behind or being alone, fatigue, and not having enough company to get along with or dynamic activities to focus his or her attention to. Intervention is usually done at this stage by which normalcy or healthy use could be sought but counseling could help in revealing the cause behind this and can be of great assistance.

While all attempts are made to bring down the consumption level within healthy parameters, but staying away from alcohol completely for at least one or two years would be the most advised option. This solution had given many people the focus towards the total abandonment of drinking since they were able to successfully modify their ways into living a more satisfying and productive lives. Alcohol addiction, or alcoholism, results when a person’s physical, emotional, and psychological being is permeated by alcohol and its consumption. In the process of alcohol abandonment, certain withdrawal symptoms can be observed such as tremors and seizures in the physical aspect, blackouts on the psychological side and some part of our lives such as financial, legal, vocational, marital, recreational, social and medical will also tend to experience alcohol-related breakdowns. About a third of diagnosed alcoholics were found to have been drinking again but only to a moderate level.

The healthy and moderate consumption levels of alcohol are never hard to achieve again even if such person tends go beyond the normal alcohol consumption and had been a dependent to it. According to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism 58 percent Americans who were suffering from alcohol addiction could bring down their consumption levels to moderate zones within a year.

You wouldn’t accept a single treatment for every stage and type of a real disease like cancer, don’t be fooled into accepting one for a non-disease like alcohol abuse.
